AN ANGEL AMONG US

His name is Ka’Marrion. He is 2 years old, has curly black hair, big eyes, chubby
cheeks, and brown skin. He is full of energy. If you attend Sac River Cowboy
Church or watch online, you have seen him. Most likely, you smiled when watching
this little boy.
Tweety has custody of him and brings him to church. He calls her Nani. I do not
like to think what his life would have been like if she had not done that. He and I
became buddies right away. I tell people he adopted me, and I love it. He calls me
Papa Larry and my wife Grandma. He has blessed our hearts, but we are not the
only ones.

He has become a special part of our lives and has also touched the hearts of just
about everybody at church. He brings a smile to everyone’s face. My wife and I,
and many other people, enjoy his hugs and fist bumps. He is also a good kisser,
and we love kissing on those little fat cheeks of his.
Memories we have made with him, and will make in the future, will be added to all
the memories we have of our kids, grandkids, other kids at church, and kids in our
neighborhood. As we get older, those memories will warm our hearts.
As I walk around at church with his little hand in mine, or I am holding him in my
arms, he will give anyone that comes up to him a fist bump or a handshake. No
matter what is going on in their lives, it brings a smile to their face. Some may
have really needed that fist bump from that little boy. I have even seen a few tears
run down people’s cheeks, including mine, when I see how he is blessing other
people’s lives.
The other day he walked up to a man whose heart I thought would never be
touched by this little boy. He wrapped his little arms around the man’s legs and
looked up at him. The man reached down and patted him, then he left the room
smiling. I think I saw a tear in his eye.
I watch as the faces of folks in wheelchairs or walkers light up when this little boy
comes by and they give him a hug or a fist bump. Some have told me that it made
them feel better than they have felt in a long time.
One Sunday, my buddy and I were standing in the back of the church talking with
people, and of course, they were getting fist bumps. A couple came past us.
He was using a walker, and she was helping him. Ka’Marrion let go of my hand
and walked between the couple and took their hands. He then led them all the way
down front to the seats they normally sit in. They have been going through a lot
and needed that. I thought to myself, “Is this special little boy an angel?” His Nani

might not always agree with that. I am sure there are times when he is not a little
angel.
He has the ladies who work in the church kitchen wrapped around his little finger.
They pick him up, love on him, and give him snacks. He is also buddies with all
our church security team. They keep an eye on him and get hugs and fist bumps
too.
I watch when he is in the church playroom with other kids. They are happy and
enjoying themselves. He helps them with the toys. They see no skin color. Red
and yellow, black, brown, and white, they are precious in His sight. God made us
all.
Pastor Ty, his wife Julie, and their son Hayes have all been touched by this little
boy. I see her loving on him every chance she gets. Hayes is good about playing
with him and taking care of him. Ty and Julie pick him up and hold him. A smile
comes to their faces

.
Pastor Scotty is amazed at how everyone at church loves this little boy. His
presence brings joy and maybe even a little healing to some. You can’t be sad
around him. I can’t help but think again, “Is this special little boy an angel?”
I do the announcements at some of our church services. When he is there, he is
with me on the stage. Everyone loves it when he sees or hears me and comes
running to his Papa Larry. A lot of people watching online love it too. Some say he
is training to take my job someday.
We will never know what some of the people were going through in life when he
stuck out his hand and gave them a fist bump or a hug. For most, it is like
whatever it was went away for a while. They all smiled and everything was okay
that moment in time.
His Nani even told me a story about an old grouchy guy in their neighborhood who
is always griping and complaining about things. No one liked to be around him.
Then, he met Ka’Marrion. He now sits on Tweety’s porch smiling and talking to this
little boy. He even gets them in his car, and they drive around together.
Country music group Alabama had a hit song a few years ago called Angels
Among Us.
A line in that song says, “Oh, I believe there are angels among us, sent down to us
from somewhere up above. They come to you and me in our darkest hours, to
show us how to live, to teach us how to give, to guide us with a light of love.”
When I think of how prayers were answered when his Nani was able to get him
out of the life he would have had to grow up in, I get a little choked up. So do

others who know his story. I have to believe it was a God thing. I sometimes
wonder if this little boy is an angel among us
